Panda3dp.com has learned that renowned 3C industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo posted a tweet in the early hours of March 7, 2025:

"My latest industry research indicates that Xiaomi's upcoming flagship model, the Xiaomi 16 Pro, expected to launch by the end of 2025, will also adopt a 3D-printed metal frame manufactured by Bright Laser Technologies. This suggests that the trend of utilizing 3D printing for smartphone frames may be accelerating. The advantage of employing 3D printing in smartphone frame production lies in the ability to incorporate a hollowed-out design, which reduces weight and enhances heat dissipation without compromising structural integrity."

Production efficiency has long been a challenge for 3D printing. However, as advancements continue to address this issue, smartphone brands will likely embrace 3D-printed frames once their benefits outweigh the cost implications associated with lower production efficiency—even before the technology fully matches mainstream manufacturing processes in speed. This principle is not without precedent: before Apple pioneered CNC machining for the unibody MacBook chassis, few believed that CNC technology could be applied to consumer electronics.

Yesterday, a single tweet from Analyst Kuo sent Bright Laser Technologies soaring to a 20% daily limit increase. Panda3dp.com’s report sparked widespread interest, with headlines such as: “Metal 3D Printing Leader Bright Laser Technologies Hits Limit-Up! 3C Electronics Application Soars—Ming-Chi Kuo: Foldable iPhone to Contribute 8 Billion RMB in Revenue”.
