On September 17, 2025, Panda3dp.com learned that Scantech officially launched its new NimProbe tracking optical pen measurement system at its online product release conference. Designed with a fully wireless, lightweight architecture, NimProbe integrates the handheld i-Probe optical pen with the next-generation i-Tracker optical tracker, innovatively combining probing and scanning modes. It is tailored for applications such as fixture alignment, reference marking, and high-precision dimensional inspection of small to medium-sized components—delivering flexible, precise, and efficient 3D measurement solutions for industrial inspection and smart manufacturing.
Portable, All-in-One Convenience NimProbe is compact and portable—the entire system fits into a single case. With no complex setup required, deployment takes just one minute, instantly transforming it into a mobile measurement station. This design supports efficient on-site measurements across workshops, production floors, and outdoor environments.
Dual-Mode Innovation, Smarter Efficiency Breaking through the limitations of traditional optical pen systems, NimProbe fuses high-precision probing with handheld laser scanning. The tracker doubles as a scanner, quickly acquiring point cloud data. When combined with DefinSight software, scanned and probed data are automatically unified, enabling seamless workflows. The system is also compatible with third-party inspection platforms, ensuring smooth integration into existing quality systems.
Extended Range, High-Precision Capability Powered by advanced optical sensors and algorithms, NimProbe delivers a 4.2 m single-station measurement range, capturing geometric features and GD&T (geometric dimensioning & tolerancing) data with high precision—providing a one-stop solution for complex 3D measurement tasks.
Deep-Hole and Hidden Point Access The i-Probe, measuring 500 mm in length, combined with intelligent occlusion compensation algorithms, can easily capture 3D data from reference holes and hidden features—even when some markers are blocked. This makes NimProbe especially effective for measuring pipelines, cavities, and irregular structures in automotive and aerospace applications.
Flexible Tracking and Multi-Station Measurement The i-Tracker continuously tracks the optical pen’s position and orientation, allowing accurate capture of hole positions, flatness, and parallelism. Users can freely reposition the pen within the tracker’s visual field, and with just a few adhesive markers, the system can quickly shift between stations. From cross-workstation measurement and multi-angle probing to dynamic inline inspection, NimProbe supports agile and efficient workflows.
Wired and Wireless Modes · Wireless Mode: Frees users from the restrictions of cables and mechanical arms, maximizing flexibility for field measurements. · Wired Mode: Provides secure data transmission for specialized environments requiring higher information protection.
Stable Performance, Robust Adaptability NimProbe maintains reliable performance even in environments subject to vibration, temperature fluctuations, humidity, or variable lighting. Dynamic measurement functions enable real-time error correction, ensuring stable precision across workshops and outdoor sites. A variety of probes and extension rods further expand its adaptability.
By integrating portability, dual-mode capability, precision, and robust adaptability, Scantech’s NimProbe redefines 3D optical measurement for modern manufacturing. From rapid deployment to multi-station flexibility, it provides industries such as automotive and aerospace with a next-generation tool for achieving agile, intelligent, and high-precision inspection. |
